South Eastern
Hydraulics in
conjunction with main contractor Dean and Dyball, Tema
Engineering, Hystat Systems and KGAL successfully completed the
first raise and lower of the Pont-Y-Werin pedestrian and cycle
bridge over the River Ely in Cardiff on 6th May.
The 32m long centre span, weighing 45 Tonnes, can be raised or
lowered in 2 minutes to allow river traffic to pass through when
necessary. The bridge has been built to allow foot traffic from
Penarth access to the new Cardiff International Sports Village. South Eastern Hydraulics were responsible for the design,
build, installation and commissioning of the hydraulic system.
The bridge was opened to the public on 14th July 2010.
